MORTON GROVE
The Village of Morton Grove, Illinois, is a mature Chicago suburb of 22,373 residents located in the near north suburbs and bordered by Niles, Glenview, and Skokie. The Village is essentially "built out" with the majority of land use dedicated to single family structures. Approximately twenty (20) percent of the land is owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and is set aside for open space and recreational purposes. As a diversified and balanced community, the Village's boundaries are served by five elementary and two secondary elementary school districts. Morton Grove's principal growth took place during the late 1950's and early 1960's when the population increased from 7,427 to 20,533 residents. Significant industrial, office, and commercial land users are also located in the community.
The Village of Morton Grove is governed as a home rule community under Illinois law and operates under a President/Trustee form of government. Under home rule powers, the Village is permitted to carry out its own governing procedures except where it is specifically prohibited by the State legislature. The Village President and the six member Board of Trustees are elected at large for four year terms. The President and Board of Trustees employ a Village Administrator, who is responsible for the administration of the Village government and the implementation of policies set by the governing body. The Administrator is a full-time professional.
The Village currently employs 166 full-time employees and 45 part-time/seasonal employees. These employees work in the following departments: Police, Fire, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, Health & Human Services, Building, and Administration. Each of these department activities are coordinated by a Department Director who reports directly to the Village Administrator.
