Once considered "the middle of nowhere" to many Chicago residents, the Northwest suburbs have become a hubub of modern living without letting go of the charm and natural resources of their rural past. It is a locale that accommodates middle class and affluent home buyers. Palatine and Buffalo Grove are, typically, middle- and upper-middle class, residential neighborhoods, catering to families and children.
Villages such as Lake Zurich and Wauconda have developed commericially and residentially, as a result of their natural beauty. With Lakeside recreation and antiquing both popular pastimes, the communities attract new residents and visitors alike.
Besides easy access to many of the largest malls in northern Illinois, the northwest suburbs offer their own special mix of malls, strip centers, and old-fashioned downtowns. Six hospitals serve the northwest suburbs. All offer physicians referral services and community education classes.
